Prologue: How Do You Kill a God

He landed on his knees, his daikatana gripped tightly in his right hand. Blood dripped onto the ground as he clutched a small wound at his side. There were footsteps closing in on him. Inbetween the trees of the mass forest in the middle of Hytha wasn't going to hide him for long from Raven's omniscient vision.

"Come out Wind Elf... Face me like you should have a long time ago." His voice far away yet so close, entered Blize's brain directly. He wasn't fighting an opponent that he was used to. He had been able to handle giants, demi-gods, hordes of demons, and even a council of elder beings, without much help before. But this was different. Raven was a god. Not only was he a god though. He was the God. The all powerful creator of this world.

The footsteps drew closer and Raven placed his hand on Blize's shoulder. Blize turned around and stared at Raven's face. Everything about him had a glow to it. His pure white hair, his pale skin, even the pitch black blind fold he wore around his eyes. Raven smirked.

"I found you. Now then... It's time to play." Raven took his hand off of Blize and quickly clapped them together, causing the trees surrounding them within a ten mile radius to collapse. "This should make for a better playing field. No place to hide." Raven drew his twin katanas and slung them at Blize who quickly blocked using all of his strength. He felt Raven's blades digging into his own with little to no effort. At this rate he'd be left without a weapon. Blize quickly summoned all of his strength and pushed Raven away, leaping backwards to distance himself. Once he regained his footing he quickly lunged at Raven, but was met with nothing as Raven appeared behind him. Blize turned around just in time to block a double bladed stab, adding more strain to his already war-weary blade. If only he could summon up some form of wind, he could turn this battle slightly in his advantage. Raven smiled at him and drew backwards.

"How funny... Thinking you can try to use your silly wind techniques to overtake me. Too bad I drained all of your already puny magic energy." Raven let out a laugh and sheathed his blades, then took a stance. He let out a yell and a white crack in the ground shot towards Blize, who somersaulted into the air and landed back onto the ground. There was no way he was going to win this fight. Any more of those magical attacks and Blize was done for. He stood up and dashed towards Raven with his sword but was once again met with nothing. He turned around ready to block his blades once again, but Raven wasn't there either. He heard the crow of a raven in the sky and looked up to see a Raven as white as a dove flying in the night sky.

"You bore me. Let's end this now." Blize felt these words burning into his brain like a hot flame. The raven flapped its wings twice and flew towards the ground at a high speed. He was going to dive bomb Blize and not only end his life but that of anybody within a fifty mile radius of the battle. Blize knew there was no use in trying to dodge this and took a defensive stance, ready to accept the fate. He felt his hair move against his forehead. Wind. His one chance to place the battle in his favor was finally here. He let the sudden gust envelope his body and he flashed up into the air next to the descending Raven. He took his blade and quickly slashed the bird from beneath, causing it to fly up into the night sky. But that wouldn't be enough. Blize took the gust and rode it up and once again met Raven, slicing him downwards. The bird transformed back into Raven's human form. Blize flashed back to the ground to meet him. Raven felt the blindfold falling off his eyes and saw nothing. His omniscient sight was gone and he had sustained critical wounds. He was defenseless in his raven form, but he thought that Blize wasn't capable of pulling off magic. Well he had one final chance and he pulled out his two blades and readied them. He channeled all the magical energy he had left and forced himself at highspeed down to Blize.

Blize took a firm stance in the ground, ready to block anything Raven planned to come at him with. Raven descended like a comet and their blades met and for a second everything froze. Blize looked into Raven's glazed eyes and saw the fury and crazed look of a mad man on his face. Blize took the silence in and readied himself for what was about to come. Steel shattered and a large white explosion was created. Blize was thrown to the ground and was blinded for a few seconds, but when he regained his self he looked back to where Raven had fallen only to see him standing up, staring in pure fear at a large black wisp that had appeared from the explosion. It had no certain shape for it was constantly changing with every passing second. The ground around them turned grey as a hollow and doomful voice spoke.

"I am the spirit of this blade, Shazitune, the soul consumer and the one true guardian of death. After my death I had been forged into a blade, to be wielded by a powerful warrior who would take many lives with me. The blade has been broken, resurrecting me again for the time being, and with this time I will grant the sword bearer one grace."

Blize stared at the figure in awe. He knew his sword had mystical properties... But he didn't know it was alive. He kneeled down out of fear and respect.

"I am the sword bearer. And I have a wish for you." Blize spoke strongly but his voice was shaken.

    "What is it, wind elf?"

"Destroy the God standing next to you. Raven. Destroy the God that has caused so much suffering in this world. Take his life and let him live out a miserable eternity in the after life where he will have to live each day, being tortured by the souls that he has taken." Blize felt his eyes fog up as he said this. This was it. This was the end. It was over. The world would be safe once again. He could finally retire to his cottage across the sea. He felt the air grow cold and the ground start to rumble.

"So be it..." The black wisp let out a yell and Raven was sucked into a vortex that had been created. Blize felt his heart rest with ease as he heard the dying screams of Raven. But his disposition slowly changed. He felt himself being drawn closer to the vortex. He tried to retain his footing on the ground to avoid being dragged in but to no avail. He struggled, trying to find some form of wind to guide him out of there, but his energy was drained. He was useless in this state. He needed rest before he could pull anything off. As he approached the vortex he closed his one good eye and one tear fell from his eye to the ground. He allowed himself to be pulled into the blackness and felt himself floating. He opened his eye and examined the surroundings. It was pure void. Nothing was around him. He heard the low and doomful voice of Shazitun in his head again.

"You should not be here warrior. You should have gotten out of the area before allowing yourself to be overtaken by my powers. Unfortunately I cannot take you back to your world. But I can take you to another. There, you shall take me once again as your sword and live as a guardian of death. Do not kill anyone without the need to. Protect the friends you make and the lives of the innocent and banish those with evil in their hearts, letting me consume their souls. Do this and I will grant you the gift of everlasting life."

Blize thought about the request and nodded his head. He was ready for his duty as the guardian of death. He felt himself floating around and around until he was thrown through the blackness by the hand of an invisible shadow. His body flew through the darkness into another world where he was flung into a tree and promptly knocked unconscious.

The stars shone through the gaps in the branches of the trees making up the large forest of the world where an elf lay unconscious. The animals of this forest made no noise, and ignored the new arrival into their world. Deer sniffed on by him, snakes slithered past him. One lone leaf fell from the tree that he was propped against and softly landed on his head. His eyes slowly opened and he looked around him. Where was he? He asked himself. How had he gotten there?

He closed his eyes and searched his mind for the first bit of information that came to him. Blize. His name was Blize, that bit he was sure of. Shazitune. Shazitune was the name of his sword. He looked around on the ground to see where his blade was and felt himself sitting on something long and stiff. He produced a long, daikatana, sheathed in a black scabbared that had strange white markings running along it. He pulled the blade out and was mystified by the beauty of it. The grip was decorated with ivory wrapped in black silk with a guard made of what seemed to be sky metal. The blade ran about four feet in length and was forged with black sky metal infused with shadow properties. Where had he gotten it?

He thought long and hard about this question, sifting through his mind only to produce half an answer. He was a guardian. The guardian. Guardian of what he didn't know right now. But he knew that this blade was his to use in his job as the guardian. He tried to remember what he was the guardian of because he didn't want to refer to himself as just "The Guardian." He was met with a sharp, painful headache. It was no use. Maybe he was the guardian of this forest. That must be it. He brought himself to his feet and stretched out his limbs and smiled at the scenery. Well if he was the guardian. He might as well get to work guarding it.

He slowly walked over to a deer that was passing by and winced with pain. A sharp throb ran up his side and he fell back to the ground. He looked down at his side and noticed a large gash going through his armor straight through the skin. He became increasingly shocked at the fact that his armor seemed to be soaked in blood but gave a sigh of relief when he noticed that it was colored red. He took off his top to inspect the wound, and was greeted by multiple scars along his abdomen and chest. He tried to remember wear he had gotten them but his head once again throbbed in pain. It was quickly getting to be a pain to have such memory loss...

Rhonin nickered softly, waking her from her gentle slumber. Sitting up, she ran a furred paw over her eyes, and glared at him.

"What was that for? I was dreaming."

"Something in the forest is hurt. I smell blood."

She sighed, and stood. Raising her face to the winds, she breathed deep, and detected the sharp metallic scent of blood and battle. "Well shit. I'll go. You stay, guard my food." She left the little campfire, following her nose toward the scent. A few hundred yards away, she found him.

His red leather armor stood out against the browns and greens of the forest, the blood pouring from his wound nearly blending into his armor. Silver hair flowed down his back, nearly as long as her own. A metal plate covered one eye.

She watched him for a moment, still hidden in the shadows of two trees. Slowly, she stepped out, her magic ready just below the surface of her skin.

"If you have good intentions, I will heal your wound."

Blize blinked at the woman who had stepped out from the trees. He didn't know what to think of her and he remained silent taking in what she said. In the back of his mind he heard a hollow whisper.

"Only kill those who are corrupt. And protect those who are your friends."

Blize had no idea what or who had just whispered to him but he felt himself smile at the women and bow. He gripped his side as he did this, forgetting that he was wounded.

"I can assure you. There are no bad intentions in my heart as far as I can tell. I would be honored if you could patch up my wound. I have no idea how I got it. In fact, I have no idea how I got here. All I can remember is that my name is Blize and this elegant sword is Shazitune, and I'm the Guardian of this forest... Whatever forest it is... Blize looked around him as he spoke. He could feel something slowly coming back to him. But all it was, was just pure darkness. Pitch black and a doomful voice giving him orders. He felt a sharp pain in his head again and he grabbed it with his free hand. "It seems my head is aching too. Can you heal both of my injuries sustained?"

As he spoke to her, he felt a gust of wind rustle the branches and flow through the forest. He didn't know why, but this excited him and made his heart rush. He felt alive as the breeze blew through his hair. He felt urges that he couldn't explain.

She lifted her face to the breeze, breathing in the clean, crisp air. The forest spoke to her, though never in crystal clear words. A small deer came out of the trees.

I saw the man arrive. He tells true. He is elf, and we are not afraid.

She nodded to the creature, and walked past it toward the being. "I do not trust you as easily as the forest, so stand with your legs wide, your arms outstretched. Be warned that I'm faster than you are, so I'll beat you to a weapon draw." No need to tell him that she would have her weapons on his body...

Blize got lost in the feeling of the wind and closed his eyes letting it envelope him completely. He had memories. Memories of running. Running through a forest like this and dashing along the wind, almost flying. He heard the woman's voice and he broke away from his mind. Opening his eyes he looked at her and nodded his head.

"Alright." He wanted to tell her that she could trust him. Tell her that he wasn't going to cause any harm to any of the animals or to her. He didn't know how fast she was and he wasn't going to try to find out. He slowly stood to his full height, wincing as he stood straight and tall. He let his arms stretch out to as far as he could reach, and let his fingers stick out, trying to feel for the wind again, hoping it would visit his hands and wrap itself around his long fingers. He spread his legs out wide so that he almost lost his balance. He swayed in the breeze a little and smiled at her.

    "This good enough madame?"

Cautiously, she walked toward him, until she stood by his bleeding wound. Lifting her hands, she blew a gentle stream of air over her palms, imbuing them with power. She placed her hands over his wound, chanting softly under her breath, and pushing the power into him. The wound knit closed, repairing all damage done within seconds.

Stepping back, she dropped her hands. "There. That ought to feel better. Nothing I can do about the headache, though. Sounds like you have amnesia, which will pass with time, or it wont." She turned to leave, then stopped.

"What are your plans? I'm not sure I like leaving you out here alone, with no memories. Elves don't belong this far north, either, do you remember how you got here?"

Blize inspected the now closed wound. He ran his hand across the area and was surprised at how quickly it had healed. To inspect the workmanship he raised his arms in the air and did what had been waiting to do. He found the part inside of him that long to play with the wind and he grabbed onto it with and invisible hand and did a backwards somersault onto one of the tree branches above. As he did this he felt a surge of excitement rush through him. He looked down at the girl and smiled.

"Good work madame. I didn't even know I could jump like this." His eyes caught her more serious look. His disposition changed and he jumped down from the tree and stood in front of her.

"Plans? I don't have any that I know of. I don't even know where I am. As for how I got here, I don't know that answer. The last memory I have is waking up, laying against this tree."

She sighed. "Alright, then. Come with me. I'll see what I can do about that memory of yours, though I probably can't help. I still don't trust you, either."

Her molten eyes looked him up and down, and she shook her head. Too many had tried to trick her in recent months for her to be the naive, trusting woman she had been when Rath found her. She turned and started back towards her camp and Rhonin. In her palm, she conjured a fireball, an image of them in the center.

She hadn't seen Rath or Dain in months. She hoped they were well, and happy, and most of all, together.

Rhonin whinnied at her as she came into view, and she smiled at the colt. "Found a stray, be nice to him. Doesn't look very tasty." Ever since meeting his father, Rhonin had taken to biting strangers, much like Firemouth had.

Settling back against her tree, she waiting for the strange elf to settle in.
