...to announce the activation of the ore refinery on the northern peninsula creating approximately four-hundred new job openings to interested colonists. In other news an ExoGeni survey team has located rich iron and platinum deposits near Leona’s Pride. ExoGeni has announced that colonist wishing to migrate to the southern continent and Leona’s Pride may volunteer through ExoGeni Human & Xenos Resources Division. ExoGeni management would also like to report that the faulty equipment responsible for the deaths of 21 colonists at Leona’s Pride last month have been replaced and thoroughly checked to prevent any such accidents from happening in the future. Marion Supervisor Mr. Southerlin would like to remind all inhabitants that safety of ExoGeni colonists and employees always comes first and to report any concerns to the ExoGeni Health and Wellness Centers.

A tall dark skinned woman in a dark blue body suit stopped glaring at the monitor mounted on the wall beside her. The ExoGeni propaganda machine was working its magic and that just made the woman more frustrated with the fact that they were covering up the issue. Shifting her annoyance to the cheerful blue face of the secretary sitting at the desk beside the monitor Kayla Banks decided she had waited long enough. “How long is Southerlin planning on keeping me waiting? He has another minute before I open the door myself and drag him to my office.” To accent her point Kayla lifted a marble sized grenade from her belt and rolled it between her fingers.

The asari secretary smiled politely but was unable to completely hide the fear on her face at the sight of the explosive device being played with before her. “Ma’am I apologize but, Mr. Southerlin should be available any time…” The doors behind her desk interrupted her with a hiss opening sharply to reveal a tan gentleman of obvious Asian Earth origin in a white business suit sporting a fashionable goatee.

“Ah! Mrs. Banks I am mighty glad to see you again. Please step right into my office lil lady.” Mark Southerlin said completely ignoring the weapon in Kayla’s hands with his usual cheerful southern accent. Luckily he had been watching his office monitor while he had been mentally preparing for the unpleasant conversation he was expecting with the Elanus Risk Control Systems officer. Though in his opinion she was excellent at her job as head of security on Marion she was still completely loyal to her security team from ERCS Corporation and not to ExoGeni. She was also in his opinion incredibly opinionated about ExoGeni initiatives on the planet which led to his decision to act without informing her on a new security initiative and caused his current predicament.

Kayla stormed through the door and just as the door closed she roared, “Mercenaries?!? You are hiring freelance scum to replace my people?”

Mark an expert business man took advantage of the security chief’s pause and refused to give her a chance for further outburst, “Now, Kayla they are not replacements. They are augmentees to the forces you lost after the raid. Your ECRS liaison said it will take months to review the incident and send additional security personnel. Frankly I don’t give a damn who these people are as long as they can drive off a batarian slaver attack and get Leona’s Pride back up and running in time to keep the quarter estimates on track for the new ore deposits. The last thing I want is my board of trustees receiving negative numbers at their quarterly meeting because that might mean they take a second look at our security contracts. Besides I already signed the paperwork for most of them and they are already on a shuttle to the township.”

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The shuttle hummed and a gentle light illuminated the passenger compartment. The co-pilot looked back at the passengers and smiled, “So, you are the experts they hired to keep Leona’s going? I hear it was a real mess few weeks back. Six bodies and a whole lot of missing people. Not sure how it was an accident or anything since none of the major equipment looked damaged.”

"You compliment us, sir." Remarked a voice of impressive depth and power to the co-pilot's use of the word expert, its pitch a deep bass that resembled the melody of rolling thunder, "But yes, you are correct. I myself was incorporated into Mr. Southerlin's payroll as of only a week ago, however, I cannot speak for my colleagues."

The mercenary that spoke resided comfortably upon his seat with his right leg crossed over his left, his crimson gaze both polite and composed as it moved to settle upon the shuttle's co-pilot. These details would be unworthy of note had he been a Salarian, Turian, Human, an Asari, or even a Batarian. But he was not a Salarian, Turian, Human, an Asari, or even a Batarian. He was a Krogan, one whose form was hulking, brutish, and forged in the furnace of war as was typical of his race. He bore several scars upon his tan and brown flesh where it was visible, the entirety of his body aside from his head being firmly encased within a suit of gray Krogan battle armor. For a being spawned into the carnage of battle and molded like clay into an instrument of war to be so polite was a rarity.

Ghash "The Gardener" raised the obsidian cup of coffee that he clutched within the two fingers and thumb of his left hand to his rough lips, tilting the glass back from his wrist slightly and swallowing a short gulp of the liquid that steamed within.

(Wow I didn't even know this was the Mass Effect RP, But at the moment I can't really think of an intro post right now but I'll give it a go.)

Listening as the the co-pilot and the Krogan conversed among each other, Darius would remain silent as he would think about his past relationship with a group named Cerberus. Holding his Harpy Pistol in his hand he begins to twirl it on his index finger the only reason he was even on this shuttle was because heard the pay was good and if not he would leave as soon as he found out that it wasn't. As a renegade Darius would find other work and contracts if need be.

Stopping the twirling pistol on his index finger Darius directs his attention at the Krogan without a single word, on the inside of his helmet he gives him an unassuring look.

'A nice Krogan, what was he dropped on his head after birth?' Not sure what his problem was or is all he knew was Krogans were never as nice as the one in front of him. All Darius knew was that the ones he went up against were ruthless, brutish, and hulking monsters that only exhibited raw power but he wasn't to sure about this one but if he tried to attack him he would be ready to put a bullet in the Krogan's thick hard skull.

The Krogan wouldn't be able to tell if he was being eyed by the human for the simple fact that the visor on Darius's helmet was pitch black and only he could see through it. For the time being he would keep a low profile till further notice.

Aleisa sat with her eyes shut, thinking about Illium, her home planet, such a wonder and beauty with its eternal sunset and city. She had a faint smirk on her lips however, listening to the conversations around her, between the rumbling krogan and the human. She never cared much for the other races, maybe that’s why she was so good at what she did, even if she wasn’t cruel at heart. Sitting with her left leg resting on her right knee and both her hands neatly placed on top of each other in her lap she felt quite comfortable in the bumping vessel. It was almost like the old days, missions, dangerous ones, the initial seconds before drop off was always the best of it all.

Being an Asari she didn’t feel much like a “girl”, she considered herself to be more of a man rather than a woman, yet she wasn’t neither. Why she though about that was unclear to her, perhaps it had some sort of meaning why she felt that way.

It must be hard having two extra digits on their hands, Kerghan thought as he looked around him carefully, peering around at various areas of the freighter.

The Turian was used to uncomfortable confines, bumping into his fellow officers on the way to somewhere just as claustrophobic. It never bothered him, not even with a Krogan in their midst; it took all sorts of people to make a galaxy.

His orbs then strayed to glance at the others: an Asari and a Human. His scaly mouth grew to a small smile as he tilted his head to survey their behaviours. The demure patience already portrayed by the Asari gave some hope, but the Turian was curious about their new five-digit handed friend as he holstered his gun, already prepared.

Kerghan's C-Sec experience caught up with him and he had to ask, overhearing the conversation between the Krogan and the pilot.

“Experts seem like a strong word for people like us,” he spoke in his calculated, strong tone, “but I'm curious about these missing people. There are no clues as to who could have taken them?”

"According to the dossiers we were provided; no." Ghash answered Kerghan's query, lowering his still steaming cup of coffee while turning his head to the Turian, "However, it would have been imprudent of Mr. Southerlin to allow documents entailing any such leads or confidential information to mere prospective employees."

The towering Krogan glanced down at the mug of hot liquid within his hand before taking another sip, his outermost digit pointed away from the cup politely while he swallowed.

"I am sure if any such information is available it will be provided upon arrival." He added smoothly, setting his now empty cup down upon the nearby armrest of his seat.

"I don't know any particulars either, sir." The co-pilot said with an expression of slight embarrassment at his inability to help his passengers with more information. Sounds from the haptic interface drew his attention for a moment before the co-pilot turned back to the passengers. "We are three minutes out everyone."

He adjusted his omintool and the display inside the passenger area lit up showing a landscape and a cluster of buildings. A trajectory for the ship showed up ending at a landing zone behind one of the larger buildings. Symbols representing two other transports and a small shuttle were marked on the main landing area on the northern side of the colony. "Change of plan from the initial briefing. We will dropping you off on the supply pad behind the main storehouse for the colony. Apparently ECRS have showed up unscheduled something about ongoing investigation. Sorry about the inconvenience."

The co-pilot had a confused look on his face (easily reckognised by anyone who had spent a fair amount of time with humans or other humans) as he tried to understand the situation on the ground a little better. He seemed to be focusing on information in his helmet display.

"Heh, figures." Said Darius in response to the pilot's response not being able to be drop of at the front door as he rose from his seat to prepare for landing. While doing so he would ask the co-pilot how far are they away from the meeting place and where exactly where it would be held. Checking his gear precisely and carefully he brings up his omni-tool to double check to make sure everything is in tip top shape if it wasn't he wouldn't be able to make his money.

Taking one more look around the shuttle he wonders if this was all the people that were hired.

'So we have an Asari, Krogan, and a Turian?' A little surprised at the appearance of the Turian Darius has only encountered one of them in his life time but taking this contract up this would be his second one.

This would prove to be an interesting yet enticing day for the Human.

Aleisa opened her eyes, her facial features of bright red shone quite abundantly from her dark skin. She stared at the Krogan, which was sitting directly across from her; what an absolute abomination it was, a giant toad, a salve toad. She picked up and unfolded her assault rifle which was laying right next to her on the other seat. She took aim at the Krogan, checking its sights and systems, clips were a-ok.

“Boom.” She said and pulled the trigger but only a click could be heard since the gun wasn’t active. She lowered the rifle a bit and gave the huge toad a wink with her eye, very confident and almost mocking.

Ghash watched the Asari as she prepped her assault rifle and pointed the weapon at the small space between his eyes. The corner of his mouth turned upward in amusement when she pulled the trigger, the wink of challenge that Aleisa sent his way answered with a condescending glance before the massive Krogan simply grunted and looked elsewhere.

    Asari; always so... witty.

The Turian gave a respected nod towards the human and Krogan for the information, his cat-like maw moving with quiet utterance, but nothing that could be heard well. Kerghan folded his arms and looked to the side.

"Mmm," was his thanks, but his cue to quieten. He noticed that some meditated in their own special rituals. Some chose to show their big guns already, making the Turian's growing smile widen, a short chuckle escaping from it as he once again looked away, his left hand scratching the back of his scaly neck. The other tinkered with his visor.

Well this is going to be cuddly.

With three minutes to go, it was a suggestion to prepare. The Turian was one step ahead:

    He was always prepared.

The copilot turned all his attention back to the cockpit as the shuttle raced quickly along its final approach vector towards the freight landing pad. The holographic display showed the shuttle approach at a speed slightly faster than most commercial pilots would have done. The landing angle was sharp but a quick adjustment by the pilot who was obviously showing off brought everything back in line. The stunt piloting had the shuttle landing 48 seconds sooner than the copilot had suggested. Mildly embarrassed at his partner’s actions the copilot smiled sheepishly at his passengers, “Umm… well seems we are here now. The site admin should be meeting you outside though we are a little ahead of the timeline right now so, welcome to Leona’s Pride.”

The holographic display of the colony blinked out of existence and with a hiss the transport doors on the side of the craft opened. Bright sunlight from the system’s yellow star illuminated the passenger compartment revealing the open and rugged landscape of northern Marion. The land was mostly rocky with imported scrub brush taking root.

The transport sat in the center of a large concrete landing pad made to hold heavy lifters significantly larger than the shuttle. Towering over the pad was the enormous warehouse facility that blocked any view of the rest of the colony buildings on the other side. Large bay doors designed for receiving cargo containers were closed on the side of the warehouse with smaller personnel sized doors beside them. In the personnel doorway were two blue armored security personnel, one a turian the other a human. The two guards began walking towards the transport followed by two security mechs.

Seeing the security personnel and their expression the copilot said, "They don't seem happy to see you here. Best of luck!"

Stepping off the shuttle taking in the sites the illuminating star would almost pierce through Darius's black visor.

'Leona's Pride.' He thought to himself it was a place no different from the other places he had been or traveled to but one thing for sure is the star was far brighter than anyother he has seen. Seeing the facial expressions of the security guards accompined by the two mechs Darius would clinch his fist tightly as they began to glow a feint blue, readying to use his biotic powers for any means necessary if they would become hostile.

"I don't know about you guys but I don't like how there approaching me."

Ghash merely glanced at the human when he spoke, the corner of his mouth twitching slightly downward. The Krogan blinked before offering a slight shake of the head and moving in the direction of the approaching security personnel, his back straight and his face wearing an expression of calm and composure.

"Somehow I doubt that you were contracted to come here just so they could kill you," Ghash answered Darius evenly, apparently undaunted by the mech units which accompanied the guards, "Though I suppose it never hurts to air upon the side of caution."

Ghash came to a halt not far from the guards, his massive and armor-clad feet evenly squared and his powerful claws coming to clasp one another behind his back in a professional manner.

"Good morning." He politely greeted the security personnel, disregarding the mechs for the moment.

The Asari followed the rest of the crew outside of the shuttle and strolled about to stretch her legs and limber up. There wasn’t much to see, it was basically a big structure in the middle of nowhere with some houses attached to its presence, not too many places to hide or seek cover. Aleisa saw the small security force approaching, probably the escort that would take the party wherever they were needed. She slowly strolled back to the party and joined up with them again even if she was within ear shot distance all the time, just a few feet away. Aleisa rolled her eyes at the Human for herself, behind him so he would notice; he seemed very tense. The Krogan however was like any other Krogan; large, loud and confident.

The Asari placed her left hand gently on the Humans shoulder as a sign to relax, being an Asari her touch was calming, and soothing regardless of her profession. But even if she played it cool she couldn’t help herself but to placing her other hand far up on her hip, as close to her weapons on her back as possible.

The Turian followed suit as each crew member clambered from the carrier. The human was worried, with the Krogan doing no favours to calm him. The Asari however, had taken measures.

As the sunlight beamed into the little hold, Kerghan briefly shielded his eyes with a hand, flinching from it, dazzled by the sudden illumination.

Not long after, Kerghan holstered his sniper, his green orbs fixiated on the approaching guards. He positioned himself beside the Krogan and gave a respectful nod to the Turian, then the human. His scaled head edged slightly aside, peering behind the two guards to stare at the mechs, then at anyone else nearby. He needed to be certain that this wasn't some sort of trap.

The two guards walked with a bored purpose towards the group exiting the shuttle. The two halted a respectable distance away waiting for the group of mercenaries to come to approach. The security mechs stopped behind the guards in an efficient but non hostile manner. To anyone who had dealt with security mechs before this would most likely be because the mechs were set to a “Follow” command and anyone who was an expert would know the mechs were also cheap designs by the ERCS who had only recently moved humans into the market of mech design a decade before.

The guards watched uninterested as the human disembarked the vehicle whatever he had said the guards hadn’t noticed over the sound of the transports engines. The sight of the krogan made the human security guard stand a little straighter slightly from being intimidated by the reputation of the species. The krogan’s greeting did little to calm the guard. The turian guard seemed unimpressed by any of the mercenaries that had gotten off the transport but nodded slightly to the turian behind the party of mercs.

“We are here to escort you to Captain Baker so he can brief you on the situation.” The human guard said loudly to be heard over the engines of the transport as it lifted off again towards the main colonies. He motioned with his thumb towards the doorway they had exited from and then turned around and started walking away from the mercs. The security mechs turned sharply and followed while the turian guard decided to take the rearguard of the ECRS detachment. (Note: The original contract stated the group would be met by the colony administrator not by the ECRS detachment)

Partially ignoring the Asari, Darius would remain with his fist clinched remembering the contract he had signed it was stated that he would be met by the colony administrator not ECRS detachment.

"Wait just one second." Darius said questionably, relaxing his fist he then crosses his arms and ask the guards a question that peeked his curiosity.

"When I sign contracts I read it thoroughly, from top to bottom and everything in between. Fine prints from foot notes included nowhere did it say that "I" would be met by ECRS detachment but the colony administrator himself... Now please explain your presence here before I lose my patients and toss you and your toy mechs off the nearest platform.

"Now, now, I'm sure there's an explanation for this," Kerghan said, folding his arms and peering at the guards properly for the first time. His side-gills twitched and opened very briefly before he shrugged and took a few, slow paces forward, confident that the guards weren't going to pull anything cowardly.

It was going to be a mess.

"So," he said carefully, "I think we should make a move and see your Captain so we can shed some light."

Aleisa was reminded how simple things were back in her commando days; there was just the mission and as little talk as possible. The human’s ruckus could not possibly improve the situation, if these guards, or whatever they were, with mechs, were here to accompany us somewhere then what was there to do about it really. The Asari let go of her tension and agreed with the turian as she tried to cool the situation.

“Let’s jus go with them and get this over with.” She said and almost had her eyes roll around several times.
