Rath Condarrion Theme (This is tentative, will probably change it later) Known Aliases: Vance Skylord, Jordain Gryfore Age: 26 Race: Human Gender: Male Personality: Carefree, energetic, charming. Rath is known for his ability to be excited in almost any situation and he has a tendency to live life to the fullest. Even in situations where death is breathing down his neck, Rath manages to shine with his determination and strength. He rolls with the blows, and is a hard man to keep down, even in a losing fight. However, Rath is constantly putting on a show. He behaves in the manner that he does for a very specific reason. Deep down Rath is often depressed, and despite his popularity with nearly everyone he meets, he is often lonely. It is difficult to catch Rath not wearing his mask; however, he is not tragic. At the same time Rath hides his sadness; he also accepts his past and does not resent it or his sadness. He knows that if he lived his life depressed, Rosalyn would beat him in the afterlife. Thus, Rath is an optimist. He loves women. Rath is constantly surrounded by women, and he always seeks them out when he's not. Women love Rath. There is something about him that draws them to him wherever he goes. However, the memory of his lost love Rosalyn keeps him from ever getting too attached to other women. Since her death, he has never been able to stay with another woman for an extended period of time. Background: Birth and Early Childhood Rath was born under unusual circumstances on the fifth day of the seventh month of the year 510 AL in a small farm town named Caldriff near the border that separated Meeriea from Gelvs to Roland and Atha Condarrion. The first and most prominent of these circumstances was the presence of the silver moon Lukina in the sky, a sight that is regarded as good fortune because the moon is so rarely seen. The second circumstance was the unusual temperature of the night. Caldriff was situated on the edge of a desert, thus most nights the temperature was quite low. However, the night Rath was born the night was uncharacteristically warm. Rath learned to walk earlier than most children and he proved to be a strong child even at an early age. Whenever he got the chance to Rath would attempt to steal his father’s sword, despite barely being able to lift. However, it was surprising that he could even move the weapon. Rath’s father Roland saw something in the young boy and when Rath was old enough Roland began to teach him how to use a sword. Rath learned how to use a sword quicker than his father could imagine. By the time Rath was ten years old he could almost best his father in a sword fight. Late Childhood Rath grew up working a small farm with his parents and was constantly practicing with a sword whenever he got the chance. By the age of ten he was fairly skilled with a blade. The Gateflame War started shortly after Rath turned ten. The Kingdom of Gelvs declared war on Meeriea when Meeriean citizens defended themselves against greedy Gelvsian landowners. The Gelvsian landowners had been trespassing on Meeriean land for years, slowly snatching up land from modest people. When Meeriean officials locked up the landowners, Gelvs demanded that their people be released or else. Meeriea refused to release the criminals and Gelvs declared war. Roland was a minuteman for the Meerian army and because of Caldriff’s proximity to the boarder he was shipped out to the front lines. He fought valiantly for a year before he died in a strong rush forward that gained Meeriea a lot of ground in the fight. Three years after the war started, when Rath was thirteen, his town was attacked and destroyed by Gelvsian soldiers. The townspeople were killed and Caldriff was burned to the ground. Rath's mother gave him her necklace, claiming it was a family heirloom with magical powers and hid him in a closet. She insisted that she lived alone when the soldiers came to their house. She lied and said that her husband and only son had died fighting the war. While breaking down in tears she insisted that the soldiers leave their small town alone but they had no mercy. They killed her and ran off without even burning the house. Rath was left alone in the closet and spent the night there. He was awakened by the sounds of rough voices and of men clearing away debris. He watched them from his hiding spot as they checked his mother’s lifeless body. They found him when a sob escaped his lips and gave away his hiding spot. The armed men with the symbol of a rustic, broken rifle pierced by a shining sword on a field of crimson encompassed by a golden circle emblazoned on their chests and metallic half-armor covering the left side of their bodies introduced themselves as The Slayes, a group of mercenaries hired by Meeriea to fight in the war. The leader of the Slaye search party was a young man named Jordain Gryfor. Jordain was a strong fighter and a rogue at heart. After Rath complained fiercely about how he wished he had had a sword when the men arrived so he could have fought them off Jordain decided to see what the young boy knew. He gave the young boy a sword and told Rath to come at him. After being forced to take a sword at Rath (who refused to fight adamantly) Jordain finally managed to force him into a fight. The Slaye fighter was impressed by Rath’s skill, despite being able to easily defeat the boy, and decided to take him back to the Slayes. Early Adolescence After being recruited (or nearly press ganged) into the Slayes Rath quickly proved his worth one mission after the next. Despite his young age, Rath proved to be a skilled fighter with an almost inhuman amount of stamina and determination. When questioned about the source of his massive determination the young boy could be quoted as having answered the question simply by stating he couldn't let his mother down. Rath was known for wanting to live life to the fullest for one reason only, because "you never know when you're going to die, and not living every second up to that point would just be sad." His mother had given her life to save him. He wasn't going to insult her sacrifice by sulking his life away, or staying weak so someone could kill him. Every moment he could spare outside of missions was spent honing his skills with sword and gun alike. The young rogue was determined to be the best soldier the Slayes had, even better than his mentor and best friend, Jordain. Around the time Rath was fifteen years old the Slayes gained a fiery new recruit by the name of Rosalyn Sunders, who quickly earned the nickname "The Beauty" from the men of the Slayes. Rosalyn was a dancer at a bar in a small town that the Slayes had stopped at during a mission to stock up on supplies. While on missions the mercenaries tried to keep to themselves and keep their identities a secret because the sightings of mercenaries tended to scare people, but the Slayes were well known and their proud symbol was easily recognizable. Rosalyn had been attractive even at a young age and she had always appeared older than she was which gained her the attention of numerous unsavory characters. Because of this she had trained herself since she was young how to fight and defend herself, as she was an orphan with no known parents or siblings to protect her. When she saw the Slayes at the bar where she danced she begged them to take her away from the dull town. She had heard stories of their valor and strength and wanted to experience first hand the adventures of the mercenary life. No argument she made about her strength and skill worked on the men. Before them stood a tall, dark-haired beauty with deep violet/blue eyes, a shapely body, and long legs. There was no way this young woman of eighteen was the fierce fighter she claimed to be. However, she proved them wrong when one man made the mistake of suggesting they bring her along solely for the entertainment she could provide them. These words earned him a boot to the face from her before anyone saw her move. The resulting fight lasted several moments and brought about the unfortunate beatings of three more Slayes before Rath stepped up with a grin on his face. However, Rosalyn wasn't affected by the young rogue's natural charms and proceeded to beat him just as she had the other Slayes. Rath fought back, unlike the men before him, and managed to stop her attacks. It was at his behest that she was allowed to join the Slayes. From that day forward the two were prone to breaking out randomly in daily sparring matches, each claiming they would not lose to the other. Rath lost most of the fights. The other men accused him of letting the girl win, but he insisted that the losses were real and would always claim he would win the next fight. The two grew stronger together. They fought side-by-side in wars and fought each other in their free time. This style of training also made them the perfect partner for one another because each knew the moves of the other. They knew the strengths and weaknesses of one another and thus could better defend each other in a war environment. After two years of fighting beside one another they realized that they shared more than their prowess on the battlefield and their friendship. They had developed feelings for one another, and strong ones at that. It wasn't entirely clear until the day after one of their sparring matches when they had collapsed exhausted from the fight. Neither one was sure how they ended up in each others arms, but they had known from that moment that there was more to their friendship than they had thought. When they finally told the other Slayes the mercenaries burst out laughing and started celebrating and calling out "Finally!" from the top of their lungs. The only people unaware of the connection had been Rath and Rosalyn. Late Adolescence As Rath and Rosalyn spent more time together they began to discover more about one another and the love they had. One year after their feelings had come to light Rath presented Rosalyn with a bracelet he had had specially crafted for her out of gemstones. Several of the stones were carved in the shape of roses, her favorite flower. A few months before his eighteenth birthday, Rath was once again out on a mission with the Slayes, however, Rosalyn had become ill and did not ride with them for this particular mission. During the mission Rath fought a large man wielding an powerful battle axe. The man proved to be highly skilled with the axe and could move with surprising speed. Rath only barely managed to beat the man, but not before he lost his left arm in the fight. He nearly lost his life that day, but because of the skill of the Slaye healer his life was saved. Upon returning to the Slaye base, Rath was confronted by a distraught Rosalyn who blamed herself for the loss of his arm. It took him many days to convince her to not feel guilty about something so silly as a lost arm. Zeldane, the technician and weapons expert of the Slayes worked together with the healer to develop an arm to replace Rath's left arm. They presented him with the gun-arm on his eighteenth birthday. At first the young rogue had difficulty controlling the gun-arm like it was his old limb, but after months of practice he eventually got the hang of how to control the arm and was back in the fray immediately. He had become restless during his time off due to his injury. Early Adulthood ~To Come Weapons/Equipment: Rosalyn's Song: Hand-and-a-half long sword given to Rath by Rosalyn as she died in his arms after the ambush on the Slayes by the Black Desert Gang. Rath suspects that Rosalyn protects him from beyond the grave because the sword has never dulled or broken no matter the situation. Rath wields this weapon right-handed. Blade of Flames: A mysterious, single-edged sword with spidery designs etched in black along the length of the blade. At first glance, the sword, with its rectangular, box-like sheath appears to be no more than a rich noble’s sword. The sheath is wine red, stained leather with a design in the middle that covers half of the sheath with diamond shapes, checkered in gold and silver. The hand guard curves over the handle from the base of the blade and is spiked unevenly. A similar, smaller spike juts from the pommel but does not meet the guard. This sword can command or create all types of fire with nearly unlimited potential. The flames created by this sword can reach incredible temperatures when its power is focused and it has melted rocks. It has also cut through other swords and numerous other objects. Rath tends to use this sword sparingly as he prefers his old sword to the powerful magic sword. Prosthetic Arm: Model TRS: 'The Rath Special' is a gun-arm that has replaced Rath's left arm. The gun-arm was given to Rath by Zeldane Keyabor, the technician and resident inventor for the Slayes, for his 18th birthday because he had lost his arm a few months earlier on a routine mission. The arm is linked directly to Rath's nervous system allowing him to control it flawlessly as if it were the original limb. It is mounted to his shoulder via a metallic anchor that encompasses his shoulder and a small section of his chest. Rods that run through his shoulder connect the front and back plates to ensure the arm and its anchor stay in place. The plate even acts as a breastplate that protects his heart. A hidden panel near the elbow joint slides back and allows a two foot, curved blade to slide out of the gun-arm. Rath activates this blade as easily as he controls the arm. At first, the nerve signal needed to activate the blade was difficult for Rath to grasp, and he often released the blade on accident, or couldn't release it when he needed it. The arm itself is designed to work much like the original limb, thus, contrary to popular belief, Rath's gun-arm doesn't possess superhuman strength. Its strength is comparable to that of Rath's right arm, although it does possess a slightly higher level of strength due to its structure. It is safe to say being struck with this weapon will hurt considerably more than with a normal fist or elbow. Given to Doc in exchange for the Modified Lover, and help with the mission to stop Kaiser. Standard Ammo: An enchantment cast on the feeding chamber of the gun-arm ensures that the weapon is always loaded by instantly transporting in a new round every time the gun is fired. The .50 caliber round is packed with explosives and explodes on contact. Ownership transferred to Doc. Ballistimancy Shells: Special bullets created by Slaye mages in an attempt to make spells available to their soldier counterparts. Rath’s supply of these bullets was originally very limited as the original inventors died in the final raid on the Slayes, however, thanks to The Money, his collection has grown considerably and he holds a large collection of these shells. Golden Flame: A unique bullet with two spells locked inside it by some unknown means. The GF bullet, when fired, releases a mixture of fire and lightning with explosive results. This is the most powerful bullet Rath has managed to save from his days as a Slaye. Rath has only one of these bullets available to him and will always hesitate to use it. Railgun: The only ballistimancy shell that contains a solid round. A Railgun shell consists of a spell and a large, solid slug, rather than a bullet. When the trigger is pulled the spell is unleashed, creating a powerful magnetic field around the gun. When the trigger is released the slug is fired by the magnetic field, achieving velocities not obtainable by conventional ammunition. The shot is so powerful that it creates powerful gusts near the user and target, as well as causes a shock wave that damages the area it flies over. Its range is unknown because it is impossible to tell when or where the slug stops moving. Rath has many of these. Magnetic Field: This shell creates an intense magnetic field immediately after it strikes. Wherever this bullet lands, all metal objects in that area will be drawn to the point of impact by an unyielding magnetism. The effects of this bullet last several minutes and it is designed to disarm opponents, or immobilize heavily armored opponents. However, any metal the user is carrying will be drawn to the spot as well. Rath has a large quantity of these. Implosion: A dangerous ballistimancy shell, the Implosion variety creates an implosion, rather than an explosion. All objects within a certain distance (a few meters) of where the shell is shot are sucked into that point immediately with the same force as an explosion. This shell is known for its destructive power and is thus feared by Rath. He will never fire an Implosion shell at a living target. Rath has a large quantity of these. Ice Bang: An intensely powerful ice spell rests within this shell. When fired, the IB shell unleashes an icy wave of energy that freezes anything it touches. It has a range of several meters and the ice it produces is instantaneous, making the spell difficult to avoid. Rath has a large quantity of these. Flash Bang: A simple light spell. The FB bullet was originally used on scouting missions that were either done at night, or took Slaye warriors through dark areas such as caves. Rath utilizes this bullet by firing it when the enemy least expects it, blinding them momentarily. Rath has several of these. Prosthetic Arm: Model CBF: The 'Cannonball Fist' was a replacement for the gun-arm designed by a man Rath met on a trip to Omedain during his wandering years. The man, Reighland, had designed the arm years before meeting Rath, but could find no man or woman who could handle it. After some persistence from Rath, Reighland agreed to fit the rogue with the CBF. Because of its superior design, the CBF model was considerably stronger than its TRS predecessor. After taking measurements and making calculations, Reighland informed Rath that the CBF arm was at least twice as strong as his right arm, if not stronger. The CBF arm was also capable of charging up energy into an attack which was meant to be unleashed all at once in a punch that was said to be "as powerful as a cannonball," hence its name. The punch could destroy stone walls and seriously damage metal armor. This arm was used to great affect against the Cult during his adventures with Dain and Zyta, however, it was destroyed during that battle. Rath pictured with the CBF arm ~ Courtesy of Paladin_GirlMidgardian Rose: A large, broad-barreled revolver modified by Doc to fire the ballistimancy shells. Lover is an inverted barrel revolver, meaning it fires from the bottom chamber of the cylinder rather than the top chamber. It has been fitted with a pistol style slide on top of the barrel that can be pulled back to lock the cylinder in place when a ballistimancy shell is loaded into the top part of the barrel. When the ballistimancy shell is fired the end of the barrel opens up to reveal the special barrel for the shells. Besides being able to fire ballistimancy shells, Lover fires .44 caliber ammunition. Thanks to Doc's modifications, the large weapon is surprisingly light and capable of a quick draw that surprises many. Mary Lu: A massive revolver given to Rath by Doc. Mary Lu has twelve chambers in her cylinder, as opposed to the standard six chambers of most revolvers. Because of this, she is a rather large weapon, however, due to Doc's modifications, she is not as heavy as she looks. The ammunition fired by this gun is specially made by Doc specifically for the gun. Despite it being a revolver, Mary Lu fires like a cannon and is capable of blasting men away, destroying weapons, and even damaging buildings to a large degree. She also sports an impressively quick rate of fire, making her an all around devastating weapon. Mary Lu is also referred to as "The Hand of God." Razor Proximity Discs: About the size of a man's palm, with a razor sharp edge, these inch and a half thick discs pack a decent amount of explosives. Rath carries a few of these in a small pack fixed to his belt. The discs have sensors in the razor edges that set off the explosives when they come into contact with a solid object. Can be set to explode on contact or timed. Generally used on structures or walls, designed to be thrown and stuck to an object then detonated. Packs enough explosives to knock down a medium sized tree, or punch a hole through a stone wall. Stun Discs: A simple disc, similar to the Razor Proximity Discs, the Stun Discs simply release an extremely loud noise on contact with a hard surface, along with a slight flash that could potentially blind an opponent. These discs are designed to stun an opponent by disorienting them with the loud noise, or potentially bursting an opponent’s eardrums. Light Force Shield: The glove that Rath wears on his right hand is actually a piece of experimental defensive technology that was never completed. It was designed to create an unbreakable shield from focused light through unknown means; however the shield it produces is far from unbreakable due to it being incomplete. Rath can block small attacks (weak sword strikes, arrows, ect.) multiple times as long as the attacks are few and far between. A single strong blow can destroy the shield and short out the glove. It is possible for Rath to use the shield after it has been shorted out, however, each time the shield is destroyed it becomes weaker and more prone to breaking easily. Knives: Like any rogue, Rath carries numerous knives on his person, most of which are located obviously along his belt. Several knives are also stored in various hidden pockets that line his cloak, and a small knife is tucked into the top of his right boot. He also has two hidden, spring loaded knives, one in the tip of each boot, that extend when he clicks his heels in a specific ‘up-down’ motion that releases the locks that allow the knives to slide out and be used to deliver deadly kicks. Medicine: Slaye Salve: This powerful ointment was mixed by none other than the Slaye healer who created it with strong medical herbs and magic. She weaved the two together to create an ointment with powerful healing properties. This salve heals cuts, scrapes, and even bullet wounds almost twice as fast as normal. It is also the only medicine she created that is not disgusting in some manner, but is actually quite soothing. Rath has several containers of this salve. Health Ration: This small, tough brick is composed of some unknown herbs and medicines and is known to last “forever” as quoted from the healer who presented the ration to Rath. This medicine, though terrible in taste, and unforgiving in toughness is powerful. When eaten it heals very minor injuries partially and stops bleeding when the flow is manageable. It also gives the consumer a boost in energy and promotes healthy healing. It should be noted that continuing to fight after consumption is not recommended because the healing is not perfect and any old injuries could easily reopen, if they were closed, or might still remain open if they were more severe. Rath only has one of these. Bone Tonic: This little vial of liquid is used to promote healthy bone repair after one suffers a broken bone. The effects of this tonic are not immediate, nor are they complete, but merely lessen the pain of a broken bone and promote healthy, proper healing. This tonic was concocted by the skilled Slaye healer who could mix medicine and magic into one to produce the strongest medicines. Through some process known only to her she produced this tonic with extremely concentrated calcium and other nutrients designed to heal bones and strengthen them. This tonic, much like all the medicine produced by the old healer is characterized by its hideously bitter, burning taste. When questioned about why she doesn’t make the medicine taste better, the old healer simply replied, “If you hate tasting it, you won’t want to have to take it, so you won’t get hurt. Keeps you safe.” Rath has only has one of these. Special Items: Crimson Cloak: A symbol of Rath’s very being, this cloak is easily the most recognizable feature of the rogue because of its rich, crimson color. Though Rath has never told anyone, this cloak has a specific meaning. His beloved Rosalyn adored roses above all other flowers, and a dark crimson rose symbolizes mourning in the language of flowers. Rath has worn this cloak every day since her death. Crimson is also a color associated with courage, as well as blood. He wears the cloak as a symbol of his courage, a mark of the blood of his fallen Slaye comrades, and in mourning of his lost Rosalyn. The cloak is of a fine quality and resists tearing and slicing, though it is by no means an effective defense. It has an interesting design whereby it has numerous layers of cloth folded within itself to make it extra warm when needed during colder seasons, however these layers do not make the cloak bulky, thus its appearance is deceptive. When the wind is particularly strong the layers of the cloak will come undone and trail out behind the rogue, often leading people to mistake him for a crimson bird or demon and associating his name with fire. Lover’s Favors: Two fine pieces of pink silk that Rath always has with him. One piece is tied around the hilt of his sword and is worn significantly from years of abuse being so close to the combat, but is still fine. The other piece, slightly brighter than the piece around his sword due to its less abusive location, is tied around the bicep of his right arm. Rosalyn’s Bracelet: This small trinket can be found within a small pouch on Rath’s belt. Years ago, Rath had given this gemstone bracelet to Rosalyn as a gift. He had asked a jeweler to craft it specifically for Rosalyn, adding in details such as gems cut to resemble roses mixed in with the other the gems that made the bracelet. When Rath found her amongst the other Slayes after the battle with the Black Desert Gang, she returned this bracelet to him along with his sword. Ancestor’s Pendant: A tear-drop ruby in a silver setting hangs from the delicate silver chain around Rath’s neck. This necklace has been handed down in Rath’s family for generations, although its true origin is unknown. Hundreds of years before, one of Rath’s ancestors fell in love with a god during one of his numerous trips to the human realm. He was a gentle god that favored human company to that of his celestial kin. Before departing, the god presented Rath’s ancestor with this pendant, which he told her would always protect her from all harm that might befall her. This mysterious pendant holds deep within its bloody, tear shaped ruby an immense amount of godly magic. The magic prevents the pendant from being removed by force from the wearer, protects the wearer from harm (self-inflicted) and, in extreme cases, summons intense emotions from within the wearer and uses them to give the wearer great strength and other attributes. Rath has experienced two emotional states created by the necklace.
