"No He's not that dead. As for what happened, the ship caught fire and blew up." He eyed Vare for a moment and shook his head.

"What I want to know is how in storming damnation your not dead. I know falls, hell I spend half my life falling. Any other person, or creature even shard touched would be little more than broken bones and pulp from that."

The sight of the elf pleased Vare more than he would have expected, but he was starting to realize more and more that she had an unusual effect on him and this only proved it more. He felt a small flutter in his chest, but it sank immediately when Reier spoke. The normally gentle expression of the hunter darkened momentarily as he remained silent. His eyes cast downward as if he were trying to avoid his companions. The whispers of the crowd did not help.

When he brought his eyes up his face was clearer than it had been a moment before. "I do not know myself," he said simply, glancing at the sunken ground around him. "Perhaps a god favors me more than I know? Might we retreat, though? These people are making me restless."

There was a familiar sign, a sensation that existed before, in the woods. Yet, it was... Strange, somehow.
Magus grabbed at Vares' sleeve, feeling the strong arm underneath the cloth. He pulled him up gently, supporting the hunter "Can you stand?" He asked of the man, studying his face with worry.
A second ghostly horse landed near them, feeding the crowd additional curiosity yet keeping the folks afar from the small company.

Reier's stomach grumbled and he idly fished around his pocket for something edible of metallic.
"huh, a world where gods actually favor people. might be worth sticking around on this world after all." He managed to find a small pouch of the steel dust from earlier and choked down a few pinches of it to restore his reserves. "Now would someone mind explaining what in the names of the Almighty and heralds that thing was?"

"Rei's right, that think was like an unmade that was twisted" Stead commented as he appeared on his shoulder. "And why are you four even dealing with that stuff, wasn't there some beast in the woods you were supposed to be hunting?"

"Hunting here is more like Scadrial or Sel than back home Steed. We have to find a trail and prepare in advance. It's not like the plants and trees get out of our way like that did on Roshar and that boar last night was as vicious as any razorspine."

Vare wordlessly allowed himself to be hauled to his feet by Magus. He did not need as much help as he pretended to need, but putting extra weight on the magician's arm cost him nothing and made it look as if he took more damage. No doubt, his entire back was currently turning purple and blue, but that was a paltry price to pay for such a fall. Suffice it to say, he was very much in good health. Though they were the first true companions of his life, the hunter was still wary of people. The truth could be revealed at another time.

He glanced sidelong at Magus, noting the man's stare but filing it away for later analysis. "I can," he said quietly, a dazed expression sweeping across his gentle features. "Thank you. I believe she knows something about what just happened, if anyone does." He turned his gaze on Vale. Though his suggestion was innocent enough, the look and comment came across more accusatory than he had meant. A flush marred his cheeks when he realized the mistake and cast his gaze downwards.

Magus took a deep breath and ran a hand through his hair. "Let's get going." He told the others and guided Vare to one of the ghastly horses. "You two can take the other one. Let's go to the house." He gestured at Reier and Vale, then to the other horse and the general direction of Vare's home. Making sure the hunter was well mounted, he joined him and looked to the others wishing to avoid leaving any of them with the crowd.
